At the scheduled time, we will depart to discover the best of Córdoba. We will begin by exploring the Historic Center, where you can marvel at the impressive Cathedral, the historic Cabildo, and the iconic Plaza San Martín. Next, we will visit the Jesuit Block, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. We will then continue to the vibrant neighborhood of Nueva Córdoba, a lively center full of culture and recreation. There, we will admire the majestic Church of the Capuchins, in Neo-Gothic style, and explore cultural spaces such as the Paseo del Buen Pastor, the Museo Superior de Bellas Artes Palacio Ferreyra, and the Emilio Caraffa Museum of Contemporary Art. We will finish at Parque Sarmiento, one of the oldest parks in South America, designed by the renowned French architect Carlos Thays. Accommodation.
DAY 3 • CORDOBA
Today we will explore the Jesuit legacy in the province of Córdoba. The Society of Jesus, founded by Saint Ignatius of Loyola in 1540, left a profound mark on Córdoba from their arrival in 1599 until their expulsion in 1767 by King Charles III. During this period, the Jesuits established a cultural and social system that still influences the region today.
The journey heads north to visit the Jesuit Estancias, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site: Colonia Caroya, Jesús María, and Santa Catalina. Visitors explore impressive economic centers, museums, and churches located along the old Royal Road to Upper Peru. The first stop is Colonia Caroya, a town strongly influenced by Italian immigration, reflected in its artisanal cuisine: pasta, cheeses, hams, salami, and wines. The Jesuit Estancia dates back to 1616. Next, we continue to Jesús María, passing by the grounds where Argentina’s main festival of horsemanship and folklore is held, up to the Jesuit Estancia from 1618. Its museum features an archaeological room and Cusco-style sacred art. The tour concludes at the Jesuit Estancia of Santa Catalina (1622), known for its church, an example of colonial Baroque architecture in Argentina, and for being an important center of livestock production. Finally, we return to Córdoba, passing through the Sierras Chicas area. Overnight stay.
